Tanzanian reflections on Vows

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is very important day for our Society.  It is a special day, in which the Society was founded by Fr. Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, on 8. December. 1881. It is the day in which many of our members make their perpetual vows or renew  their vows or make their first vows. In this year  we Salvatorians have celebrated 132 years since  the foundation of our Society.

In this special day, we renewed our vows at Bagno in Poland, on the hands of Rev. Fr. Piotr Filas SDS, the Provincial Superior of Polish Province. It was a joyful day whereby, we were the first Clerics from Tanzania to renew our religious profession outside of our province. It was from this occasion that I remembered what the Psalmist has said “The Lord has done great things for us and indeed we were glad.”(Ps. 126:3).

The Holy Mass was presided by the Provincial Superior of the Polish Province. During his homily, he admonished us by these words: The vocation of Mary is so similar to our vocation, God has a specific plan for each one of us and he often surprises us. Not only we should be proud of our Salvatorian identity but also to be holy  as our founder encouraged us. I was moved by the gospel in which Mary gives us an example to follow and to respond everyday our call as Mary replied to the Angel “I am the servant of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word.”

We didn’t expect in our lives that one day we will renew our vows in Poland, but God has a specific plan for us, He surprises us and do many good deeds without expecting it. In this special way, we would like to thank the Almighty God for the gifts of life and vocations, that on this special day we were able to stand before him and renew our vows, also we would like to thank all the community members here at Bagno for their prayers and generosity. My Almighty God bless and grant them all uncountable graces so that they could accomplish what they would desire in their lives. Amen

It was the day of renewal of my religious vows since I made them the first time in Tanzania 8/12/2012 at Namiungo Formation House. I am very grateful to God who granted me a gift of vocation to the Society of the Divine Saviour. At this time I reside in Poland and I renewed my religious vows in front of Fr. Piotr Filas SDS, Provincial.

Fr Piotr preside the Mass in the seminary chapel in Bagno and I was very much impressed by his homily as he said thet we Salvatorians, we must become more aware of our noble task. We must entrust ourselves to God entirely, to throw ourselves in the arms of the Divine Guide… and to preach zealously the message of Our Divine Saviour. We should strive to be holy. If we will be faithful to our vocation, we will be happy.

The Divine Saviour, in His great mercy, has called us to become images of himself, as far as possible. He has called us so that, through holiness our work everywhere may be accompanied by blessings, happiness, and salvation.
