We are called to Proclaim Jesus our Saviour

125th SDS Anniversary

On the 8th December 2006, Salvatorian Priests, Novices and Lay Salvatorian collaborators, celebrated the 125th anniversary of the foundation of their order by Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan. This significant anniversary was marked with a special Mass celebrated at St Lawrence Church Balcatta, and was followed by a dinner dance at Rossetti Function Centre.

Many people attended both occasions and the evening was voted to be most successful. Those priests who were able to join in the celebrations, concelebrated together on the altar with Father Boguslaw Losbika being the main celebrant. The homily was delivered by Father Leonard Macionczyk. He centered around the foundation of the order with special emphasis on giving thanks to God for the last 125 years of existence of the Salvatorian family. He encouraged us to lead a holy life and, with Mary as our model, strive for holiness and be a witness of God’s love to all people everywhere, and to proclaim Jesus as the only Saviour. The liturgy of the Mass was conducted by parishioners from many of the Parishes in which the Salvatorian Priests are currently working, and music was provided by St Lawrence’s church choir.

The evening before on the 7th December, two postulants were received into the Salvatorian novitiate to commence a year of spiritual formation and discernment of their calling. The two novices are Daniel Tolczyk and Bonaventure Echeta. This ceremony was conducted during a special Mass held at St Simon Peter church in Ocean Reef. The chief celebrant was once again the Regional Superior of the order, Father Bogushlaw Loska and the homily was delivered by Father Tadeusz Seremet who centered his talk on vocations and calling to the priesthood and religious life. He stressed the importance of family both immediate and extended in nurturing vocations in the young. Again Collaborators and parishioners attended this Mass in support of Daniel and Bonaventure and both young men were warmly received. Saint Simon Peter community prepared a light supper for those in attendance and a specially baked cake to commemorate this occasion was cut by the novices.

On Monday evening the 11th December, Priests from the Archdiocese of Perth were invited to concelebrate a Mass with Archbishop Hickey being the main celebrant. Bishops Holohan, Quinn and Sproxton were also in attendance along with approximately 30 priests. This was held at St Anthony’s Church Greenmount the first parish in Australia where Salvatorian Priests arrived 45 years ago. Parishioners from St Anthony’s parish along with Collaborators from across Australia were there to help celebrate this occasion. The homily was given by Father Boguslaw Loska and was a history of the foundation of the Salvatorian Order. This included the charism and its relevance in the modern world. Father Boguslaw also gave a brief history of the Founder Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan. He gave a short precise of Father Francis’ life and how he came to found the Order. He continued with a brief history of the Salvatorian Priests in Australia. At the conclusion of Mass, a celebratory dinner was held in the Parish Centre for all priests in attendance, it was a wonderful way to conclude the 125th celebratory week to mark the foundation of the Salvatorian Order.
