Our Salvatorian community in Manila is trying to help the children who live in the slums of Parola. These kids have nothing and spend their lives sorting through rubbish on a huge stinking rubbish tip to eke out a living for their families. Last year the Salvatorians in Philippines with around 200 volunteers held a Christmas party for 500 of the children and it was an amazing success for all.
This year they would like to have the party for 5ooo children. The cost to give them a good meal, a present and entertainment for the afternoon is only $5 a head.
Our Salvatorian community in Australia, together with Salvatorian Collaborators and parishioners are trying to raise funds to support this event and in the future alternative learning education system which is going to follow from next year. To find out more about the beginning of these ideas please read reflection: Hidden World or to find out what is Parola read reflection: Slums of Parola.
