It was one massive celebration for the Catholic Parish of Pittwater on the weekend on October 13, 2013. It was the only Mass for the two churches, celebrated in the open-air at the Pittwater Rugby Park and was followed by a vibrant festival of performance, food and rides to celebrate our faith as one, as the Catholic Parish of Pittwater.
This unique outdoor event was the Parish’s response to mark the Holy Father’s proclamation for the Year of Faith - the anniversary of the beginning of the Second Vatican Council and was an opportunity to give thanks for the abundant blessings that have been afforded to the parish community, our families and ourselves.
Fr George and Bishop Bernard’s imperative for each parishioner to offer prayers for a sunny day resulted in sweltering heat and was a splendid reminder that God does answer prayers!
The Festival included stalls prepared by many of the parish ministries and was also an opportunity to view the impressive artworks prepared by the students of Maria Regina School, Sacred Heart School, Mater Maria College and catechist students from the State schools. Each of the 1900 artworks were a stunning representation of these young people’s understanding of faith! Fr George’s homily invited everyone present to share the gift of faith, to give thanks for every blessing and to open our hearts to Jesus in a deeper way.
The whole afternoon was a special gift and a marvellous opportunity for the Catholic Parish of Pittwater to be together as one. Our thanks are extended to Fr George for his vision and ability to connect the broader faith community of our parish and schools.
