Religious Vows 08

vows

On Monday, 8th December, 2008 a special Mass took place at St. Simon Peter Church, Ocean Reef to mark a triple celebration; the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the anniversary of the foundation of the Society of the Divine Saviour (or Salvatorians), and the making and renewal of vows by our seminarians.

In an impressive scene twenty-two Salvatorian Priests processed into the Church to celebrate the Mass and to honour the life work of their founder, Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan.  Parishioners were most pleased to see among them some well-known faces of Priests who are no longer locally based; equally it was pleasing to see a significant congregation of Ocean Reef parishioners, together with Collaborators from other parishes, to share in the ceremony.

The Celebrant for the Mass was Salvatorian Regional Superior, Fr. Boguslaw Loska, assisted by Rector of the Salvatorian Seminary, Fr. Adam Babinski and Ocean Reef Parish Priest, Fr. Richard Sadowski.  The Ocean Reef Parish Choir enhanced the evening with their music. Very welcome members of the congregation were an English Salvatorian Sister, a visitor who was celebrating her 50th anniversary of Religious Vows, plus the parents and families of the seminarians. Following the Gospel Fr Adam called Novice, Symon Smyth-Kirk to stand before the Celebrant and make his First Profession.  In his Homily Fr. Loska expressed the joy of the Salvatorian community at having two Australian seminarians, the first time this has occurred in the history of the Salvatorians in Australia, and thanked the families of the two Seminarians as he said vocations are born and nurtured in the home.  Symon then knelt before the Celebrant, underwent his Examination and read the Profession of his Vows. The senior seminarian, Daniel Tolczyk, then made the second renewal of his Vows before the Celebrant. This part of the ceremony made a great impression on those present and must have been a very moving experience for Symon and Daniel’s families. All members of the Salvatorian Community were then invited by their Superior to stand in front of the altar and make their annual Renewal of their Vows.

The congregation were delighted when the Priests closed the Mass with their song in Polish, "Matko ma, Zakonie moj". Following Mass a large number of the congregation accepted Fr. Richard’s invitation to join the Priests in the Parish Centre to enjoy refreshments, and supper provided by ladies from the Parish Council and volunteers, and took the opportunity to congratulate the Seminarians and catch up with visiting Priests.  Daniel and Symon thanked their mentors, Fr. Chris and Fr. Adam and asked for the continued prayers of Collaborators to sustain them in the future.  Symon also reflected on his first year in Western Australia.  These two fine young men are a credit to both their parents and their teachers and will have the support and prayers of all Collaborators.
