We are Called to Proclaim - Jesus Saviour of the World

How to become a Salvatorian

To become

We accept men over the age of eighteen who have completed Secondary School studies, and who feel called by God to serve his Church in an apostolic community. The first steps are the same for those who will become Brothers or Priests. After a period of time spent as a candidate in a Salvatorian Community, during which we can get to know you and you get to know us, the Superior will recommend you for the Novitiate. During this spiritual year you will learn more about prayer and the religious life, and begin to discern whether you are truly called to the Salvatorians. At the end of the year you will take the three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience for one year. These three vows are renewed each year, normally for five years, after which perpetual vows are professed through which you commit yourself for life.

After the Novitiate Brothers normally undertake a basic theology course and then a training in some skill or profession.

After the Novitiate those who intend to become Priests undertake the normal studies prior to ordination. This usually means six years study of philosophy and theology.

Whether you become a Priest or a Brother the Society regards this period of formation or training as of the greatest possible importance. It is the foundation on which a life of dedication and apostolic service is build, and must therefore be adapted to your individual gifts and talents so as to prepare you to serve the Saviour in the best possible way.

The Divine Saviour, in His great mercy, has called us to become images of himself, as far as possible. He has called us so that, through holiness our work everywhere may be accompanied by blessings, happiness, and salvation.
